Chapter 1 - Changing of the Guard

Jack Wooten left the room with the utmost admiration and respect for the audience whose company he just departed.

The former Watchkeeper jury foreman exited the cavernous bunker housing America's most elite decision making body, fully aware that he left the jury in its most capable hands since its inception.

Jack was relieved of the monumental pressures he endured for the past five decades in public service with the Marine Corps, US Secret Service, and the Security Management Agency, yet he felt an emptiness in his departure.  He knew this day was due, and he knew Finne was the best man to carry the torch forward through the next generations of the country's political leadership and national security..

"God Bless," Jack wished upon Finne walking alone towards the lighted tunnel exit. "God Bless America!"
