Chapter - Literately Acute

Sarah Simpson returned home for the first time in seven weeks.  Having ignored all her previously normal life while serving jury duty, she was now confronted with it directly. As she opened the door to her third floor condo a what of familiar smells greeted her. She felt welcomed and completely secure. For she now knew that she would be forever protected.

Sarah’s apartment was scattered with the remenants of her daily life as she had left it. Clothes were piled, bills were littered, and the contents of her refridgerator were eclectic and disgusting.
“Seriously, you didn’t clean up? What the fuck?

“Sarah scanned the layout of her residence looking for the minute changes that she was aware had been made. She picked a few obvious modifactions to her walls, light fixtures, and the ventilation registers that provided panaromic viewpoints of her living space.  For each she found she acknowledged with a wink and kiss but no words to specify her assumptions. A wink and kiss would look fantastic on camera, if caught. However, Sarah was sly enough to know that if she had guessed a camera lense location incorrectly, than a wink and kiss without words was unatributble to her snooping.

Chapter 2 - Allies Outdone

Alone, solitude provided Finne with a needed mental reprieve from all the information weighing down his head.

Alone. Truly, alone.

Finne knew his role was no longer to investigate but to marshal. Marshal the Jury he was now charged with leading.  He was now more like judge than law enforcement. His input and leadership now guided the inner workings of America's most-secret decisions.  He was chosen for this and had been surveilled for years by the same organization he now leads.

Fuck It!, Finne thought as he returned to the casino floor following the phone call he just faked in the men's room to compose himself.

Chapter - Twenty-two Looks Good on You

"You look even better with clothes on, Sarah!" Finne conjoled as he led Sarah by the arm as she stepped from the limousine.

"You've been watching?!?"

"Really?, who hasn't?  You have been going full nude next door for a stretch now."

"What's the difference? I'm watched while I pee, so why do clothes matter?"

"They don't. You're right. Just sayin' your little black dress leaves enough for the imagination to make sure you will get all the attention you want tonight."

"It's not about attention!,..." Sarah started to retort before realizing the futility of her argument given her recent gratuitous nudity in contempt of her now never-un-watched-life... as it were...

"You've got my full attention, as you should tonight." Finne replied.  "Let's go win some money!"

Sarah followed Finne's lead into the newly-opened, river-front casino from the long line of private cars that lined the yellow brick drive extending from the gambling campus' royal entrance.

Passing through rows of brilliantly lit slot machines, each chiming in celebration of both tonight's grand opening and their own touted jackpot prizes, Finne led Sarah to the private blackjack tables within the high-limit room, reserved for the most VIP patrons tonight.

"Come sit with me and learn how to play twenty-one"

"I've been playing twenty-one since I was thirteen, " Sarah replied with a cunning and legitimately earned grin.

"Blackjack....twenty-one..."

"I get it.  But I don't need to learn anything.  I here to win some money."

"Good attitude, shorty.  Need a drink before we sit down?"

Sarah's face said more than Finne asked for.

"Duh?  right... Jack and Coke?"

"Double," Sarah returned while watching the deal progressing on the table to her right.

"Double down!" Sarah shouted at the back of the player seated in front of her.

"Double Jack and Coke or Double down princess?" said the the stocky- blue-suited gambler, whom's back Sarah had just yelled over.

"Both!"

"I'll get the drink, but she's right...the dealer will bust showing a five like that." Finne interjected.

The stack of five-hundred dollar chips was matched by an equal stack.... doubling the two-thousand dollar bet.  The player's ace, six was hit with a four...twenty-one... winning hand...likely.

The dealer's fifteen became twenty-five with a Jack of Diamonds.

"You're good luck, honey!" Blue suit said to Sarah.

"You have no idea." She replied.  " Move over, I'm coming into this shoe..."
